I set myself the brief of an alternative illustration for a popular-science magazine article on the exploitation of the oceans and the destruction of natural habitats. The image answers it with a single surreal figure: a great blue whale on a stark white backdrop, its body colonised by chimneys, factory installations, and pipes drawing fluids from its body. The palette follows the article's sombre tone.
